Choosing a container liner: balancing insulation, light blocking and installation time
A container liner delivers three things: it flattens the temperature swing across the wall (inside-outside variance reduced by 8-15℃), blocks 99% of light and reflects 96% of heat sources to cut refrigeration energy. Unlike a pallet cover it must also answer an installation question — two workers can install it in about 15-20 minutes, which directly affects yard scheduling. Fix the model and weight from the container type first, then check the insulation magnitude, then confirm seams and closure.
Start with container type, model and weight

| Model | Container type | Unit weight |
|---|---|---|
| INSULPACK | 20GP | 14±5 kg |
| INSULPACK | 40HQ | 25±5 kg |
| INSULPACK | 45HQ | 27±5 kg |
The material is alu foil + PE + woven + PE + alu foil at 135 g/m² overall. Unit weight determines whether two workers can handle it: the 45HQ model at about 27kg already needs a two-person operation.
Beyond container type, state whether the liner is used as a pallet sleeve or stacked, because the installation route differs between usages.
Insulation magnitude: what 8-15℃ and 10-20℃ each refer to
Swipe the table horizontally to see all columns.
Two insulation figures appear in the manual and they mean different things:
| Figure | Meaning | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 8-15℃ | Reduction in the inside-outside temperature variance | Insulation feature note |
| 10-20℃ | Inside-outside difference of the liner | 48-hour outdoor test conclusion |
| 96% | Heat source reflected (energy saving) | Insulation feature note |
| 99% | Light blocked | Light-barrier feature note |
The 48-hour outdoor test placed a container under direct sunlight at 34.8℃ ambient. Internal temperature ranged 24.22-42.33℃ (variance 18.11℃) against external 23.46-71.35℃ (variance 47.89℃).
The point of this data is peak shaving: external variance of 47.89℃ is compressed to 18.11℃ inside, roughly a 62% reduction. It is not “constant temperature” and not “cooling to a given value”.
Mechanical strength and air-tightness: whether it survives reuse
Swipe the table horizontally to see all columns.
| Property | Value | Standard |
|---|---|---|
| Tensile strength | Vertical 650 N/50mm; horizontal 520 N/50mm | — |
| Bursting strength | 1366 kPa | ISO 2759:2014 |
| WVTR | <0.02 g/(m·h) | ASTM E96 |
| Reflectivity | 95-97% | — |
| REACH | 241 SVHC ≤ 0.1 | 1907/2006 REACH |
Seams are sealed and closure is Velcro, giving air-tight performance. This serves both light blocking and moisture control: an unsealed seam markedly degrades both.
Tensile strength differs between directions (650 vs 520 N/50mm), so pay attention to load direction during installation and avoid pulling across the horizontal axis.
Installation time as a selection variable, not a detail
Swipe the table horizontally to see all columns.
The source material includes a two-person installation reference of about 15-20 minutes, but actual time varies with container fit, available space, operator experience and concurrent loading. It is not a universal labour or schedule commitment.
Confirm three things before planning:
| Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Model matches container type | A mismatch adds on-site adjustment |
| Operators and unit weight | Liner weight varies by container type; plan handling for the site |
| Loading while installing | Concurrent work affects actual completion time |
For planned reuse, confirm installation guidance, spare-part scope, cost and availability with the order.
·Selection steps·
Step-by-Step Guide
- 01
Confirm container type and model
Match the model to 20GP / 40GP / 40HQ / 45HQ and check unit weight against crew size.
- 02
Define the insulation objective
Distinguish reducing variance from holding a constant temperature — the former is what this product does.
- 03
Confirm light-blocking and air-tight requirements
For light-sensitive cargo confirm seam sealing and complete closure.
- 04
Account for yard time
Build the two-person, 15-20 minute installation into the yard schedule with allowance for adjustment.

Frequently Asked Questions
01 Does a container liner hold a constant temperature?
No. It compresses temperature variance: in the 48-hour outdoor test external variance was 47.89℃ against 18.11℃ inside, roughly a 62% reduction, with inside-outside differences up to 10-20℃. Cargo temperature still changes over the journey.
02 How much heavier is a 40HQ liner than a 20GP one?
The 20GP model is 14±5kg/pc, 40HQ 25±5kg/pc and 45HQ 27±5kg/pc. The 40HQ and 45HQ models effectively require two people, which should be reflected in scheduling and labour.
03 What does 99% light blocking mean?
It is the light-blocking ratio given in the manual. Achieving it requires fully sealed seams and closure; incomplete Velcro closure or open seams reduce both light blocking and moisture control.
04 How long does installation take?
The manual states about 15-20 minutes for two workers. Actual time depends on container type, model match and whether work overlaps; record real timings on the first installation.
